December 2011 Prayer Letter

Catching up with the Clodgos…

Since our last official prayer letter back in September, things have been very interesting in our house to say the least.  Our kitchen flooded twice due to a faulty water pressure regulator, the mother board on our “good” computer crashed and while it was in the shop being fixed a much older laptop that we were using crashed, and our car was in the shop – not once but three times!  However, despite all of these distractions, God was – as always – more than faithful and sustained us through each one of these unforeseen “blips” on the radar of our family´s life.  We also want to take this opportunity to once again thank all of you who gave to help pay for car repairs and the purchase of a new computer!

The Zone…

Are you in The Zone?  The newest outreach at our church is called La Zona (The Zone).  Right now, the only teenager in our church is Levi.  So, in an effort to get to know some teens in our neighborhood, we are using our church as a youth activity center.  At the moment, this is a purely pre-evangelistic activity.  We have ping-pong, a foosball table (Thanks Pastor Roger!) and we bring Levi and Gracen´s Wii and hook it up to the church projector.  Here is what happened in November at The Zone. Levi´s classmate Sam started a group called One Town at a Time, a group of ECA students with a burden to reach unreached towns in Spain and, even though our church is established, we asked if our desire to start a youth center would fit into their ministry ideas.  It being a nice fit, we picked up 2 carloads of middle schoolers, most of them from the group OTaaT who meet weekly to pray, and a seminary student.  We got to the church, fed them a snack, and they went out in groups of 4 or so and handed out flyers, the same  ones we had posted all over the neighborhood earlier in the day.  We were astonished when a few minutes later, the kids came in droves!!!  At one point, not counting the kids from ECA who came to minister, there were at least 20 kids in our church from the neighborhood.   We couldn´t believe it.  Too many to even get all their names.  Some of the kids were frustrated with their friends when they couldn´t get their friends to leave!  Twister was a hit, the Wii was constant and the ping pong was intense.  They devoured the brownies the other mom had made and so Tammy promised them brownies in two weeks when we opened again.  When we were closing at 7pm the boys on ping pong were begging Glenn not to make them stop playing.  Adrián, Adrián, José, José, Eva, Andrea, Nicoleta, Pedro, Fabi, Luis, Dominique…  Of course, it was the loudest and dirtiest we´ve ever seen our church, but it was worth it!!  It was good for Levi to be involved in something like that.  His experience:  they were trying to invite a group and when they heard "church" they walked away but Levi said "Wii, food and ping pong!" and they came back to get the flyer!  They didn´t come that night, but you get the idea what it´s like to try to get teens into our church building. The idea is to break down barriers and eventually get to know them enough to have an influence in their lives. Last week we had about 15 kids come to hang out and break in the new foosball table.  We open every other Friday night.  Who knows when we´ll be able to have devotional talks with them or any of them would attend church...it could be years, but maybe it will be this Christmas to see our program on Dec. 23.  One of our church members is also coming to help.  You can imagine the prayer support from all of them since many of them grew up going to youth centers opened by other missionaries.

 Praises…

·         The provision of all the funds needed to pay for recent car repairs.

·         A pastor who gave so that we could purchase a foosball table to use in The Zone.

·         The joy it has been to study the Bible with an unsaved couple who has been attending our church.

Pray with us…

·         For the salvation of the couple that is going through the Bible study called The Story of Hope.

·         For our church’s Christmas program “The Million Dollar Question”.

·         For The Zone.  We now have contact with 20 or so teens.

·         For our support needs.  We are currently about $1,500 per month under supported.

Watching the Children Grow

Many of you have heard us talk about the little boys who visit our church without their parents.  What a joy is has been to see them develop over the past few years!  Besides praying for them, hugging them, and teaching them about Jesus, one of the more practical things we have tried to teach them is how to sit still and quiet in church.  With that huge task in mind, I bought them notebooks and pens and now every Sunday, they get out their notebooks and draw, usually quietly.  Spongebob has his portrait on several pages and Patrick is also well represented.  As one would expect at this age, the boys are starting to write letters and even copy phrases they see around them.  Today as we were singing one little guy brought me his notebook and asked me what it said.  "TU AMOR POR MI".  "Your love for me", refering to God´s love.  I was overcome with joy to be able to tell this little fellow how much God loves us.  I prayed that the message of the song and his little note-taking would sink into his heart, and the hearts of the other 2 children there without their parents, coming from homes where God´s love isn´t a prominent message.  Well, I found myself so overcome, that then, I wasn´t quite able to sing the song myself!  In a flash I was going over the process in my life that led to that tiny interaction between me and little sweetboy.  A calling to missions, God's leading to Spain, so many financial supporters who have made it possible over the years, language school (thanks for praying me through that one!), a dozen sh´s, a hundred fingers to the lips, and countless hugs later, we arrive at this special moment.  "What does this say?"  That He loves us so much.   It's more than a phrase to copy from the powerpoint.  It´s the phrase that helps us love little ones with dirty fingers, that motivates us to get out of bed in the morning, that helps us love those who mistreat us, and makes us want to do it all over again and again.   TU AMOR POR MI.  His love for me.  immense!

Car Repairs

Dear praying partners,

I want to thank all of you who have been praying for the financial needs that we mentioned in our last prayer letter and to ask you to keep praying. We went by the garage to pick up our car only to find out that is in need of more repairs that are going to cost about $300 more. (If it wasn´t for the fact that the mechanic is a fellow believer, I would have some serious doubts that maybe we were being taken. He is actually doing everything he can to help us save money on the repairs.) That means that our intial estimate of $1,300 is now at $1,600. If God should so lead you to help out with this need, you can give online at www.abwe.org or send a check to ABWE. PO Box 8585, Harrisburg, PA, 17105-8585. Our account number with ABWE is #13121. Thanks again for bringing this urgent need before the Lord!

Yours for the harvest in Spain,
Glenn

Kid´s Club

Dear Praying Partners,
This week we are having our annual kid´s club. It´s our version of VBS. Please be in prayer with us that this activity will reach out to many families and that a clear witness will go out! We will be meeting every day from 7PM to 8:20PM (Spain time). On Friday evening, along with a special snack, will be showing a powerpoint presentation of all of the pictures that were taken during the week and inviting all of the kids to our AWANA club which begins on September 30th. Keep praying! God is working!

Yours for the harvest,
Glenn, Tammy, Levi, and Gracen

Clodgo Corner September 2011

Minute to Win It! (game time with youth)

Family Camp

Many of you were praying for a successful and blessed family camp and, indeed, it was!  (If you receive our email updates you have already heard this, so bear with us.) It was the best camp ever!  We just keep repeating those words over and over to each other! At the camp, overall, there were about 100 campers. (20 children and more than 20 teens make up part of that number). In our class of 11-16 year olds there were about 20. A large number come from churched families. About 4 boys from 14-16 years of age came without belonging to any of the churches. Some of these fellows travelled over 8 hours to get to camp. (Can you believe it?) One of our greatest joys in ministry is answering questions like "Where´s Mark?" "Where´s Luke?". In our little church in Coslada, just about any one of our children is capable of finding books in the Bible thanks to the amazing team of children´s teachers we have. So you can imagine how fun it was to help some of those teens look up Bible passages. They read verses willingly. They enjoyed filling in their outlines each day. HERE´S THE BIG NEWS: On the last day of camp, Tammy saw one of the 12 year olds reading his Bible during free time.  She had a chance to ask one of the 16 year olds about his camp experience and he excitedly explained to her his plans to "keep on with the Bible and go to church". Does that excite you? It does us. We just got a big charge out of explaining how Heaven and Hell are constantly at war for each of their souls and the power of Jesus against all things we fear and all things that can have power over us. (Mark 4 and 5, Luke 12 were some of our passages.) We presented them with the gospel each day and challenged them to draw close to Jesus in all of life´s situations. We feel strongly that God started working in some of their lives long before camp and we are praying for His continued work in each of their lives. One way He worked was enabling us to take 2 girls from Coslada with us for whom many of you provided a camp scholarship. They had a great time, made a lot of friends and were presented with some great Bible truths and their life applications. We wish we could tell you some of the details of their lives...a situation that causes us to wonder what God would really like to do if He were just invited in. Thank you for giving and for praying for them.

Financial needs

To begin with, we want all of you to know that we appreciate so very much your sacrificial giving that enables us to serve our Lord and Savior here in Spain.  In this regard, we are blessed beyond measure.  However, there are two very pressing needs that we would like to ask that you bring before the Lord with us…

1. Car Repairs: Our car is, once again, in need of some important repairs.  The current estimate is $1,300.  Please pray with us that God will supply the funds.  This is an urgent need.

2. Lack of monthly support: Over the past year or so, due to the financial crisis, we have lost several individual and church supporters.  Currently, we are about $1,500 per month under supported.  We will be taking furlough next summer and will need to raise this amount before ABWE will allow us to return to Spain.  However, in the meantime, we need your prayer concerning this important matter.

What´s on deck in the coming months…

Next week, we will be holding our annual kid´s club.  It is held in a small plaza right behind our church.  This year we are going to incorporate a bit of English with the hopes of attracting some of the kids who  attend a bilingual school located right next to the church.  On the last night of the club, we will be inviting the kids to come and visit our AWANA club which begins the 30th of September (Thanks again RCCC!).   We are planning a marriage retreat for the upcoming fall or winter.
We are praising God for…
o    A great spirit at the church!
o    A great family camp!
o    Arrival of the Byerlys!

Matters of prayer for the next few months…

o    Kid´s Club and AWANA, a youth ministry to start up
o    Bible Study we will be starting with a married couple who live in Coslada – pray for God to work in their hearts.
o    Ladies´ Bible Study
o    Plans for Marriage Retreat
o    Andy and Lindsey Messmer, Brenda Andrus, the Hagues, and the Duryees are raising support to come to Spain.
o    Needed funds to cover car repairs.
o    Our support level – we are currently about $1,500/month under supported.

Thanks so very much for standing with us in prayer.  Thanks also for your faithful support!  Keep praying!  God is working!

HERE´S THE BIG NEWS: On the last day of camp, I (Tammy) saw one of the 12 year olds reading his Bible during free time. Thank you for giving and for praying for them.

Now that camp is over we are not slowing down...this week we have a barbecue and meeting at our house to plan for our September Bible Club for children. This is always a highlight of the year. From the Bible Club, we will be inviting the children to our biweekly AWANA Club and announcing biweekly Youth Activities. And so starts the school year!

In October, we will get back to having the weekly Ladies´ Bible Study. For a couple years, Tammy have been leaning toward doing the Beth Moore study on Esther. Esther is a common name for ladies here in Spain and there is a bit of basic knowledge of the story so we think it would be a welcomed study even among the unsaved ladies who attend. The workbooks are availble here in Spanish. What we would love to do is be able to get a copy of the DVD set of Beth Moore herself teaching so that Tammy could use that in her preparation time. We know often a church uses teaching material and then places it in the missions closet for missionaries to then use. Could this be the case with your church? Would you contact Tammy if you know of a set someone no longer plans to use?

We appreciate your prayers immensely and can see God´s hand moving. He definitly keeps motivating us, along with the entire Coslada church, to love Him more and serve Him wholeheartedly! We wish you could meet the dear brothers and sister we lock arms with here and that they could meet you- the prayer warriors who keep holding up our arms.

Family Camp Only a Week and a Half Away!

Good morning faithful prayer and financial supporters,

With family camp just a week and half away, I wanted to let you all know what God is doing in regards to the funds needed to send two girls from our church to family camp and to ask you all to keep praying! As of today, God has supplied enough for one of the two sisters to attend camp. We only lack $180 dollars in order to be able to send the other sister to camp. Please continue to bring this matter before the Lord. And, if He should so lead in your heart, ask Him what part you might have in helping this girl make it to camp. Tammy and I will be working with the younger teenagers and we covet your prayers. The theme of the Bible studies will center around the idea of fear. Pray with us that God will work in the heart of each camper!

Thanks for your faithful prayer and financial support that enables us to share Christ and His saving message here in Spain!

Funds can be sent to ABWE, account #13121. Please note that the gift is for "family camp".

A Blessed Heart!

As a father, there aren´t many matters that get to my heart faster than when they have to do with my kids.  Over the past several months Levi has been playing the bass guitar on Sunday mornings along with Fran and Raúl.  Everytime he plays I thank God for what He is doing in Levi´s life.  May God continue to be glorified in and through the lives of our children!

Family Camp Just a Month Away!

In our most recent prayer letter, we mentioned that family camp is just around the corner - actually, it is less than a month away! We all know the importance of a spiritually based camp experience in the life of a child or teen and many of us can recall important spiritual decisions that were made at camp. How many pastors, missionaries, youth pastors, etc. received their call to ministry during summer camp? OR, how many children or teens have come to Christ as a result of having spent a week at camp? It is for this very reason that I am writing you all. We need you all to be praying with us that God would supply the funds necessary for two girls in our church in Coslada to attend family camp. They are sisters and come from a single parent home. Their mother is only working on the weekends and does not make enough to send them. She is, however, paying what she can. So, would you please pray with us that God would supply the funds needed so that these two girls could attend camp? And, if He so leads in your heart, would you consider giving? The total amount needed is $300. Thanks so much! It is going to be exciting to see what God does in family camp this year!
Please send gifts to ABWE, account #13121, Specify: Family Camp

June 2011

MadreSabia (Mother Wise)
Remember from our last prayer letter that we mentioned that Tammy was invited to lead another MadreSabia study in a new church plant in a neighboring city…well, they just wrapped up the study this past Sunday.  We are praising God for the work He did in the lives of those who attended.  Thanks for praying with us and keep praying that God will continue to use His Word to form and transform the lives of the 10 or so women who were a part of the study.    One lady is checking into doing the study in her home with her unsaved friends!

Following the Lord in Believers´ Baptism
Over two years ago, we asked you to pray for the salvation of a man named Eddie and, if you´ll remember, several months we shared with you the great news that he had come to Christ.  Well, Eddie just completed a series of baptism classes and has decided to publicly declare his faith in Christ and be baptized.   Now we are praying for their 2 sons to come to Christ.  Join us!

Family Camp
It is hard to believe, but it is almost time for family camp again.  This year Tammy and I will be working with the young teens and we will be teaching on the subject of fear.  Pray with us that God will use His Word in a mighty way and work in the hearts of those who will be in attendance.

Youth Center
We will try to do a few activities this summer to get to know some teens in our church area.  Pray for good ideas that will pique the interest of a lot of teens in the neighborhood.  Our son, Levi, is going to offer English classes for other teens in the neighborhood where we live.

Future Missionaries
Adam and Emily Byerly will be arriving on July 26 to help ECA for 2 years.  Pray for us to be helpful and encouraging to them and for their time here to be a blessing to them and to the school (and the church they´ll be helping in.)  This spring we have met a number of people who have come to Spain who have an interest in missions.  Pray for the Lord of the Harvest to send forth laborers…to Spain!

September
Every year we have an outdoor VBS in September with a great crowd of neighborhood kids joining us.  Pray for this to be more than a onetime event in their lives.  Pray for them to join us for Sunday School and AWANA and for their entire families to come to the Lord.  Our church family always works so hard on the outreach events and we´d love to see fruit for their labors.

October and beyond…
A little girl in our church was upset one Sunday morning that it wasn´t AWANA day!  (I know, that´s a funny praise, isn´t it?)  But it will start back up in the fall, along with the weekly ladies´ Bible study.  This fall we´d like to hold our first marriage retreat.  We plan to use the Love and Respect book as our topic.

 We are praising God for…

o    A great MadreSabia study!

o    A great spirit at the church!

o    The commitment of RCCC to help us with another year of AWANA

o    The Byerly´s have their visas!

Matters of prayer for the next few months…

o    As all the green around has turned to scorched brown, that our hearts would continue to grow and be nourished through a close walk with the Savior.

o    Andy and Lindsey Messmer, Brenda Andrus, the Hagues, and the Duryees are raising support to come to Spain.

o    Our support level – we are currently about $750/month under supported.

Thanks so very much for standing with us in prayer.  Thanks also for your faithful support!  Keep praying!  God is working!

AWANA

This morning at church we officially ended our first year of AWANA.  We handed out diplomas to all of the clubbers and recognized the adults who participated.  It was a great first year of AWANA at the Iglesia Bautista de Coslada.  We especially want to thank the AWANA club from River Cities Community Church in Huntington, WV, for making it possible!  Thanks for your sacrificial blessing!

Sunrise Service and Breakfast

We had a great sunrise service this year.  David Rivero, the pastor of the church in Alameda, gave a great devotional concerning the resurrection of Jesus.  After the service, everyone met at the church in Coslada for a breakfast of churros y porras.

Easter 2011

Due to rain, this year´s fifth annual egg hunt was actually held after Easter.  Oh well, we still had a great time.  There were 25 kids in attendance and Tammy used resurrection eggs to give the Gospel.  Pray for God´s Word to work in the hearts of the kids who attended.  Thanks for your prayers!

March 2011

Family Fun Night
This year in lieu of a Sweetheart Banquet we decided to do an activity for the entire family.  It was great.  We broke out a bunch of board games, played a few group games, ate hot dogs, and talked about the fact that each child is a unique creation and needs to have both his/her physical and spiritual needs met.  There were several unbelievers who attended and we are praying for God to work in their hearts!
Our residency status….
Praise God for His faithfulness.  We now have permanent residency (which has to be renewed every five years J).  It was a 3 month process that lasted 10.  However, during that time God was faithful and taught us several important lessons.  Thanks to all of you who so faithfully prayed with us concerning this matter!
Father´s Day picnic
In Spain, Father´s day is March 19th.  This year we had a church picnic and fun day at a new park that has opened up in a neighboring city.  It was a great day of fellowship and fun which included boat rides, laser tag, and a zip line.
MadreSabia (Mother Wise)
The Bible study for mothers spurred on spiritual growth and godly wisdom in about 10 ladies who now meet regularly to review the book again.  Tammy has also been invited to lead the study in a new church plant in a neighboring city.  Pray for wisdom in organizing this ministry and help from the Holy Spirit for leader and all participants.  This is a powerful tool for the Kingdom and we are so thankful for it!
Church Attendance in 2011
Since the beginning of the year we have had a variety of visitors.  Some who know the Lord, some who need the Lord, some new faces, and some who used to attend regularly… We are asking God to do a mighty work in our midst, strengthening believers and saving the lost.  Pray with us for the lost to be interested in the things of God and for believers to want to walk faithfully with Him.  One teen showed interest in attending a youth event with us this Saturday and bringing his brother and a friend.  Was he serious?  Will they come?  We pray they will and that God will work in their lives!
Youth Center
Many of you know it´s been our dream for years to open a youth center.  God opened the door and Saturday night a few weeks ago we broke out the ping pong table, opened the doors, and put out the chips and sodas.  We played ping pong, laughed and had a good time, wrapping up the evening with hot dogs.  (Not very creative with food lately, are we? smiley face) That´s the exciting news.  The hard part is that there were only 2 teens.  Pray for us to advertise the next one well and for the teens to be brave enough and interested enough to come!  One teen came and looked inside and then left, saying he´d be right back.  He didn´t come back but maybe next time he will.   We are praising God for…
o    God provided the funds to pay for our car repairs.  Thanks to all gave!!
o    Two new leaders were appointed in the church.
o    Our first youth activity!

Matters of prayer for the next few months…

o    Annual egg hunt in April (with gospel presentation)
o    Men´s and ladies´ Bible studies.
o    That we will continue to keep our eyes focused on the Lord and His will.
o    Andy and Lindsey Messmer, Brenda Andrus, the Hagues, and the Duryees are raising support to come to Spain.
o    Adam and Emily Byerly arrive July 26th.
o    The possibility of using the church to open an activity center for youth.  We would like to purchase an air hockey table and video game equipment.
o    Our support level – we are currently about $750/month under supported.
Thanks so very much for standing with us in prayer.  Thanks also for your faithful support!  Keep praying!  God is working!

Residency

 Residency Update.....
We will cut right to the chase.... our seven month wait to hear if our residency would be renewed is OVER.  We received a letter today stating that we are going to be given permanent residency!  Thanks to all of you who have been, with us, consistently bringing this matter before the Lord.  Without a doubt, we can look back over the last seven months of uncertainty knowing that through it all God was working to increase our faith in Him... and that´s a GOOD thing!  Thanks again for tirelessly bringing this matter before the throne.  You have been an encouragement to us!

January 2011

                                                   Christmas Program 2010

So, what is your favorite part about Christmas?  It is a tough question to answer.  One of our favorite parts is the annual Christmas program that our church puts on.  This year it was celebrated with a concert of traditional Christmas carols - coffee house style.  What better way to enjoy a Christmas concert than sipping a hot drink and eating some delicious pastries.  We were excited to see about 40 in attendance of the which, at least 10 were non-believers.  We ended the night with a challenge from the Word focused on the theme – Of all the children born into this world, why do we continue talking about Jesus?  The main point of the message was – We continue to talk about Jesus because Jesus continues to changes lives.  Has He changed yours?  Pray with us that God will use His Word in the hearts of the non-believers who attended.
Our residency status….
Please continue to pray with us about our residency status.  Back in October, the lawyer who is helping us went to Madrid to check on the status of our paperwork.  She was able to find out that the system is tremendously backed up, about six months behind to be exact.  However, our lawyer was assured that we would hear something within a month.  Well, that was over two months ago.  So, what began as a three month wait has now turned into seven.  However, we know that God is in control.  And, yes, even in matters of Spanish residency.
                                                               AWANA

Since October of this past year, our church has had an AWANA club.  It was exciting to see how God made this happen (and thanks to all who were a part of the process).  We have been averaging 13 in attendance.  Pray that God will us this outreach to put us in contact with new families.
Matters of prayer for the next few months…

o    Our car is currently in the shop with some possible major repairs.
o    Men´s and ladies´ Bible studies.
o    That we will continue to keep our eyes focused on the Lord and His will.
o    Adam and Emily Byerly, Andy and Lindsey Messmer, Brenda Andrus, and the Duryees are raising support to come to Spain.
o    The possibility of using the church to open an activity center for youth.  We would like to purchase an air hockey table and video game equipment.
o    The young mother´s Bible study is going great!  They have two studies left.
o    Our residency issue is still not resolved.
o    The insurance company is refusing to pay for the items stolen from the church back in July.  (We now have a lawyer who is going to help us.)
o    Our support level – we are currently about $600/month under supported.
Thanks so very much for standing with us in prayer.  Thanks also for your faithful support!  Keep praying!  God is working!
